Personal empowerment is not about controlling others; it’s about empowering yourself to make the choices you want and believe you deserve while also respecting the personal rights of others.
Self-esteem is also related to self-worth and self-respect. When we do not believe that we are worthy of respect, we may not takes steps to respect ourselves. This may include allowing others to decide our values or activities or following the goals others have set for us. This may also include allowing other people to hurt us or regularly sacrificing our own needs to allow others to meet their needs.
While we cannot force ourselves to have a greater sense of self-esteem or self-worth, we can start setting boundaries and taking action toward what we value, and over time, we may begin to heal our self-worth wounds.
